The short answer to this is yes. The PADI Instructor Development Course (PADI IDC) is now very much eLearning based with your PADI Instructor Manual, PADI Guide to Teaching, and the digital presentations being completed online. There are also modules of the course where you will be learning digital certification processes and the PADI eLearning system.

While this is all possible from a mobile phone it is not at all practical. Having all of your PADI Materials available on a laptop or a good tablet can really assist you in being able to access your teaching materials quickly. For tablets, we would recommend Apple iPads at the higher end although it is possible to run the PADI materials from cheaper tablets such as the Kindle Fire.

You are spending a lot of money to become a PADI Instructor and like it or not the way the world is going is to be more digitally orientated when it comes to educational materials. It is also eco friendly and means that you don’t have to lug bags of heavy manuals around the world with you as a working instructor. A lightweight laptop or tablet is an excellent tool and really essential.
