Half-Term Activities in Diani for Younger Kids
SSI Explorers: ocean adventures from age six
Children do not have to wait until they are old enough for an ocean diving course to begin discovering the underwater world.
The SSI Explorers programme welcomes children from age six, with activities that introduce ocean awareness, snorkelling skills and respect for marine life. Learning becomes part of the fun as children discover how equipment works and develop confidence in the water.
From age eight, children can try Scuba Explorer activities in a controlled pool environment. The wider programme also offers mermaid swimming and freediving experiences, with opportunities to progress through additional Explorer ratings.
Individual sessions last approximately an hour, making them easy to fit between beach time, lunch and other holiday activities.

Try Scuba: first underwater breaths from age eight
For children who want to know what breathing underwater feels like, SSI Try Scuba offers a gentle introduction in a swimming pool.
A qualified diving professional introduces the equipment, explains the basics and helps participants practise breathing and moving underwater. The experience begins in shallow water, giving new divers time to become comfortable.
Try Scuba is available from age eight and is also suitable for teens and adults. No previous scuba experience is required, and there is no formal swimming test for this pool-only programme.
It is an easy way to add a new adventure to your holiday before deciding whether to continue with ocean diving or a certification course.

First Ocean Dives for Kids, Teens and Adults
SSI Basic Diver: discover Diani’s reefs from age ten
Ready to take your adventure beyond the pool? SSI Basic Diver introduces children aged ten and above, teenagers and adults to scuba diving in the ocean.
You begin with introductory learning and a pool session, practising essential skills and getting comfortable with the equipment. Then you join an Ocean Tribe instructor for two supervised ocean dives on Diani’s reefs.
This programme is a great choice for beginners who want to experience scuba during half term without committing to a full certification course.
You do not need previous diving experience. Participants should be comfortable in the water and able to float or tread water for ten minutes. Your instructor guides your progress, with actual diving depths depending on your age, comfort, training and conditions.
For families looking for half-term activities in Diani, Basic Diver offers a memorable introduction to a world that lies just beyond the beach.

Half-Term Activities in Diani: Learn to Scuba Dive
For children aged ten and above, teenagers and adults, half term can be an opportunity to gain a new qualification as well as enjoy a holiday.
Ocean Tribe offers two beginner certification routes, allowing you to choose according to your available time and diving goals.
SSI Scuba Diver: a two-day certification course
The SSI Scuba Diver course is ideal if you have limited holiday time or prefer to learn in stages.
Over two days, students complete digital learning, pool training and two ocean training dives. The course introduces essential diving skills while giving you practical experience under an instructor’s guidance.
Once certified, Scuba Divers can explore to a maximum depth of 12 metres under the supervision of a dive professional. Younger participants receive the appropriate junior certification and follow the relevant age-specific requirements.
You can build on this qualification later by completing the additional training needed for Open Water Diver.

SSI Open Water Diver: start a lifetime of diving adventures
If you want a full entry-level scuba certification, choose the SSI Open Water Diver course.
Available from age ten, this programme combines digital learning, pool skills and four ocean training dives. Ocean Tribe offers a three-day certification course, or a four-day option that includes two additional fun dives after certification.
You can start your digital learning through the MySSI app before arriving in Diani, giving you a head start on the theory.
Children aged ten to fourteen receive a Junior Open Water Diver certification, with age-specific depth limits and supervision requirements. Adult Open Water Divers are trained to dive with a qualified buddy to a maximum depth of 18 metres.
For teens, it is an opportunity to develop practical skills, responsibility and confidence. For parents, it could be the beginning of an activity you can enjoy together on future holidays.

Half-Term Diving for Already Certified Teens and Adults
Already a diver? Make room in your holiday for time underwater.
Ocean Tribe’s guided Diani dive trips offer opportunities to explore local sites suited to your certification and experience. Junior divers continue to follow their age-specific depth and supervision requirements.
If it has been a while since your last dive, a Scuba Skills Update can help you refresh equipment knowledge and essential skills before returning to the ocean.
You can also ask our team about further training, including Perfect Buoyancy, navigation and other specialties. We will help you choose a suitable course based on your age, qualifications and interests.

Choose the Right Adventure for Your Family
The best half-term activities in Diani are the ones that suit the people taking part. You do not all need to choose the same programme.
