Do I Need To Be Able To Swim To Scuba Dive?

A question that we are constantly asked at Ocean Tribe is “Do I need to be able to swim to scuba dive?”. This is a more complicated answer than a simple yes or no, as it really depends on the experience you are looking to have.

If you are after getting your PADI Open Water Diver licence or any other scuba diving certification then the straight answer in yes. On the entry level PADI Open Water Diver and PADI Scuba Diver courses there are swim and floating tests that you need to be able to accomplish in order to earn the dive certification. On the PADI Open Water Diver course this is a 200m swim and a 10 minute tread or float.

      I went to ocean tribe to do a discovering diving section with my 10 years old daughter. And our instructor Chie was so amazing that I ended up doing my open water certification.
I had a lot of issues with sea sickness and my daughter was feeling insecure in her first dive but Chie was so patient that my daughter decided to dive and overcame her fears besides had so much fun! I am super happy the way they handle it and the whole crew are so professional and always thinking about safety! I really recommend them, they are a serious dive center and certified!

      Wir haben keine sehr positiven Erfahrung mit dieser Tauchbasis gemacht, wir haben weit im Vorfeld unsere Reise Kontakt zu dieser Tauchbasis aufgenommen eine Woche vor unserem Urlaub hieß es dann die Basis wird renoviert und ist deswegen geschlossen aber wir könnten in einem Nationalpark tauchen gehen was wir dann auch getan haben und diese Erfahrung war eher negativ. Die Wettersituation hat dazu geführt dass auf dem alten Holzboot die Gäste aufgrund der Wettersituation reihenweise am spucken waren und die Top Hits sie viel mehr Schnorchel Sports waren als tatsächliche Tauchplätze. Die Organisation insgesamt war nicht wirklich gut und bei 190 € pro Person erheblich zu teuer für kenianische Verhältnisse.

      Made a few nice dives with lots of fish and sea turtles. Diving equipment was how it’s supposed to be and the instructor was very experienced and also in for a good laugh. Had a fun and safe experience, would definitely recommend! Greetings from Amsterdam

      Had a perfect experience diving with Ocean Tribe! The occasion was arranged quickly and in professional manner. All involved people were friendly and welcoming.       WOW! The whole team from Ocean Tribe is terrific and they provide simply wonderful scuba experiences. I had to reorganise my dive schedule on a very short notice due to some health reason, and it was no problem for them at all.
I did my Advanced Open Water Diver (AOWD) with Lorraine. She was a very patient instructor (thanks again Lorraine), I always felt safe with her and Lorraine was very well prepared.
I am already looking forward to do my next dives with Mark's Ocean Tribe hopefully in a few months.
