Move beyond the basics
The SSI Advanced Open Water Diver course—formerly known as Advanced Adventurer—is where your diving really begins to expand. Rather than repeating entry-level skills, you will try five different specialty diving experiences.
Each adventure dive introduces new techniques, equipment or environments. You will learn directly in the ocean, developing greater awareness, control and confidence alongside an SSI Instructor.
Diani is an ideal advanced-diver classroom. Coral gardens, sandy training areas, changing conditions and deeper sites allow you to develop skills while experiencing Kenya’s colourful marine life.
Build your own underwater adventure
Your five introductory specialty dives are selected with Ocean Tribe according to your interests, age, experience, local conditions and instructor availability.
Deep Diving
Learn how depth affects air, light, colour, planning and your underwater awareness.
Navigation
Use a compass, natural references and navigation patterns to find your way underwater.
Night Diving
Discover different marine behaviour while learning torch use, communication and night procedures.
Perfect Buoyancy
Fine-tune weighting, trim, breathing control, hovering and efficient underwater movement.

Course requirements
Certification
Hold an SSI Open Water Diver certification or an equivalent qualification from another recognised training agency.
Minimum age
Course participation can begin from age 10. The Deep Diving adventure dive has a minimum age of 12.
Medical fitness
Complete a diver medical questionnaire. Physician clearance may be required depending on your answers.
Recent experience
Tell us when you last dived. A Scuba Skills Update may be recommended after a long break or if you feel less confident.
