What You’ll Learn
As an SSI Classified Diving Instructor, you will teach Open Water Diver skills using adaptive methods tailored to each student’s abilities. You’ll learn how to:
- Modify diving techniques to fit individual needs.
- Maintain SSI Training Standards while removing barriers to certification.
- Adjust safe diving practices to create an inclusive experience.
Course Requirements
- To complete your certification, you must:
- Pass all requirements and evaluations in the Classified Diving Instructor Manual.
- Complete practical applications, including:
- Dry Land Session
- Levels 1-3 Skills
- Demonstrate the ability to organize and present in-water skills.
- Achieve the minimum passing score on the In-Water Teaching Evaluation.
- Complete the Candidate Water Fitness Evaluation.
- Finish the Rescue Skills Workshop.
- Score 90% or higher on the Classified Dive Professional exam.
Your Instructor Rating
- After certification, you can teach:
- Classified Diving programs
- Classified Dive Buddy programs
- All courses available to Open Water Instructors

Prerequisites
✔ Age: 18+
✔ Certification: Open Water Instructor (minimum)
✔ Teaching Status: Must be active
✔ First Aid & CPR: Valid within 2 years
✔ Medical Clearance: Fit to dive
✔ Experience: At least 20 certified Open Water students
