SSI recognition FAQs

Is Advanced Specialty Diver a single course?
No. It is an SSI recognition rating earned after completing four qualifying specialty programs and logging at least 24 open-water dives.
Has Advanced Open Water Diver been renamed?
SSI now uses Advanced Specialty Diver for this recognition level. The requirements remain based on four specialty programs and 24 logged open-water dives.
What are the current Master Diver requirements?
Master Diver requires three additional qualifying specialty programs, SSI Deep Diving, Diver Stress & Rescue and at least 50 logged open-water dives.
Do certifications from another training agency count?
Some equivalent specialty certifications from recognised training agencies may be credited. They must be entered and verified in MySSI by an SSI Training Centre, and SSI limits how many non-SSI specialties may be credited.
Do I have to pay for an SSI recognition card?
The digital recognition card is normally issued automatically without a separate recognition fee once all requirements are met and correctly recorded in MySSI.
Do all logged dives count?
Recognition requirements refer to logged open-water dives. Your dives should be correctly entered and verified in your MySSI logbook.
