Do I need a laptop or tablet for the PADI IDC?
The short answer to this is yes. The PADI Instructor Development Course (PADI IDC) is now very much eLearning based on your PADI Instructor Manual, PADI Guide to Teaching, and the digital presentations being completed online. There are also modules of the course where you will be learning digital certification processes and the PADI eLearning system.
While this is all possible from a mobile phone it is not at all practical. Having all of your PADI Materials available on a laptop or a good tablet can really assist you in being able to access your teaching materials quickly. For tablets, we would recommend Apple iPads at the higher end although it is possible to run the PADI materials from cheaper tablets such as the Kindle Fire.
You are spending a lot of money to become a PADI Instructor, and like it or not the way the world is going is to be more digitally orientated when it comes to educational materials. It is also eco-friendly and means that you don’t have to lug bags of heavy manuals around the world with you as a working instructor. A lightweight laptop or tablet is an excellent tool and really essential.
PADI Apps Required for the PADI IDC
As PADI professionals you will need to be familiar with all the tools available to you. On the IDC you will be using the PADI apps for tablets and smartphones to teach and source information. Make sure that you have downloaded all of the apps on your devices prior to the start of the IDC.
PADI Adventures App
The PADI Adventures app allows divers to search for dive trips and courses around the world through the PADI Dive Center locator and PADI Travel. A useful tool for instructors to be able to demonstrate to their students how easy it is to find dive operations.
