For those of you who would just like to try diving out, perhaps as a test before getting your certification, then the PADI Discover Scuba Diving Experience is for you. After a short briefing and pool session when you are introduced to the basic diving skills, you embark on 2 ocean dives up to 12m deep under the direct supervision of an Ocean Tribe PADI Instructor. The dives from your PADI Discover Scuba Diving experience can also then be credited towards the PADI Scuba Diver or PADI Open Water Diver courses, meaning you have already got a head start on your certification.

Before we take you into the ocean we want to teach you a few basic scuba skills to safely be able to use the scuba equipment. This is done in a pool environment where you can stand up if you have any problems and there are no other factors such as surge or currents to distract you.

Your Ocean Tribe PADI Instructor will demonstrate the skills to you and then get you to do the skill until you are comfortable with it. Once you are comfortable using the scuba then its time to go on a real dive.

Once you have done the basic skills in the pool your PADI Instructor will take you on a short boat ride to a sheltered local reef. You will then go on one or two underwater tour dives where you can experience the magic of the underwater world whilst breathing from scuba.

If you enjoy the experience and wish to continue then the PADI Discover Scuba Diving can be used as credit towards the PADI Scuba Diver and PADI Open Water Diver certification.

All the equipment you will need is typically included in a PADI Discover Scuba Diving experience. You’ll use all the basic scuba gear including a mask , snorkel and fins, a buoyancy compensating device (jacket) that also carries your scuba tank, a scuba regulator to breathe from and instrumentation to monitor depth and air supply. You will also wear a scuba wetsuit and  a weight system. All Ocean tribe rental equipment is from top manufacturers such as Aqualung and ScubaPro.

For our PADI Discover Scuba Diving Experiences we offer a choice of open water venues to complete your ocean dives, once you have completed the pool training.

The first option departs from our Diani dive bases and will visit 1 or 2 local Diani coral reef dive sites up to a maximum depth of 12m. These sites have a vast array of marine life including the turtles that Diani is  particularly famous for and normally last around half a day.

For a full day out we have the option to visit the Kisite National Marine Park where there is a good chance of encounters with wild dolphins in the water. This is a full day trip and includes a dhow/boat ride to the dive site, marine park fees and a lunch on board. The boat departs from Shimoni and we transport you from Diani.

PADI eLearning Can Save You Course Time

PADI eLearning allows a lot of course flexibility. To save you time to enjoy further your Kenya beach holiday in Diani, you can complete the PADI Online eLearning for the PADI Open Water Diver course (and even the PADI Discover Scuba Dive has a section on eLearning) before you even come to Diani. This then will require the first day in the pool followed by the ocean, cutting the course time.
