A free Diani cleanup dive
with a purpose.
The lagoon is part of what makes Diani special. Let’s help keep it free of waste that may have found its way into the water.
On the first Saturday of every month, Ocean Tribe will offer a free scuba underwater cleanup dive for eligible certified divers. We’ll dive inside Diani lagoon at low tide and collect suitable rubbish as a team.
Whether you live nearby or your holiday dates line up, you can join us for a dive that makes a practical contribution. Contact Ocean Tribe to register and confirm the meeting arrangements.

First Saturday.
Low tide.
Let’s do this.
There’s no fixed clock time: the dive is scheduled around low tide on the first Saturday of the month. We’ll confirm the meeting time and location when you sign up.
All cleanup dives are subject to conditions. Being on the calendar doesn’t guarantee the dive will go ahead, so contact the team for confirmation before making your way over.

Blue Oceans.
Better habits.
Our cleanup includes the SSI Blue Oceans programme. It introduces ocean conservation and everyday choices that help reduce our impact on the marine environment.
The programme is freely available through MySSI and is open to divers and non-divers. Joining the cleanup gives you a practical way to put that interest into action. Ask our team how to access and complete the learning.
Leave the lagoon
better than you found it.
The aim is to remove waste without disturbing the environment we’re there to help. Follow the team’s briefing and ask before collecting anything you’re unsure about.
Keep your buoyancy under control, give marine life space and leave hazardous, embedded or entangling items for the team to assess. Collecting more rubbish is never more important than a controlled dive.

Cleanup questions,
answered.
Is the Diani cleanup dive really free?
Yes. The scheduled cleanup dive includes equipment rental, tanks, weights, a net collection bag and the SSI Blue Oceans programme. Any required Scuba Skills Update and optional discounted ecology specialties are arranged separately; ask the team about pricing.
When does it happen?
On the first Saturday of every month, at low tide. Contact Ocean Tribe for the exact meeting time and location. All dives take place inside Diani lagoon and are subject to conditions.
Can a beginner or an uncertified friend join the dive?
The underwater cleanup requires Open Water Diver certification or higher. Divers must have dived in the past year, or complete a Scuba Skills Update before taking part.
Can I add it to a dive trip or course booking?
Yes. Ask us to add the cleanup when your booking dates coincide with the scheduled first-Saturday dive. You still need to meet the certification and recent-diving requirements, and the dive remains subject to conditions.
Does the cleanup qualify me as an SSI Marine Guide?
No. It can support your conservation involvement, but SSI Marine Guide has separate professional-status and ecology-training requirements. Ask Ocean Tribe how to combine participation with your qualifying ecology programmes.
