The SSI Classified Diving program has been created to enable persons with disabilities who might not be able to earn full certifications the ability to dive and get certified with different safety parameters. Learn to work with disabled divers.
The SSI Advanced Open Water Diver course (formally Advanced Adventurer) is where you can begin to take part in dives that interest you and increase your depth range as a diver. The course is the equivalent of the PADI Advanced Open Water Diver course.
You will do 5 introductory dives from the specialty dives of your choice (permitted by local diving conditions).
At the end of the course, you will be qualified to dive with a buddy to a depth of 30m. Your first advanced scuba diving certification card.
And what better place to learn than Kenya? From our dive base in Diani, you’ll access a wide variety of dive sites. These include coral gardens, flat sandy areas for practicing skills, and even a deep wreck. One moment you’re mastering search patterns. The next, you’re drifting past schools of colourful reef fish. Every dive is a chance to train and explore. Even better, you’ll visit exciting sites like the Alpha Funguo Wreck, resting at 30 metres and teeming with life.
The course is broken down into two segments, knowledge development, and open-water dives.
The SSI Advanced Open Water Diver Course can be completed over 3 days or 2 if you are pushed for time. It will include 5 adventure training dives and a free fun dive if you opt for the 3-day option.
The SSI Advanced Open Water Diver course is open to anyone from age 12 who has completed the Open Water Diver course or equivalent rating from another organisation.
Before you go in the water there is Digital Training for you to complete. This covers the knowledge briefing and gives you an introduction to scuba diving and safety concepts. Your SSI Instructor will elaborate on this during the SSI Advanced Open Water Diver course dives.
Completing the knowledge development section starts before you begin the course and requires you to complete most of the Digital Learning for the SSI Advanced Open Water Diver Course (Advanced Adventurer).
SSI’s cutting-edge digital learning leads the world in diver education and enables you to complete the knowledge development in the comfort of your own home. You can take notes in the app to discuss with your SSI Instructor any concepts that you don’t understand. You will take quick reviews at the end of every section in the online learning, which you must get correct to proceed so it’s clear you understand.
The SSI Advanced Adventurer course allows certified Open Water Divers to explore five different specialty areas through one dive each. It’s designed to help you experience various diving activities and identify which specialties you might want to pursue further. This course is ideal for divers looking to broaden their skills and gain more underwater experience.
To enroll in the SSI Advanced Adventurer course, you must be at least 10 years old and hold an Open Water Diver certification or equivalent from a recognized training agency.
The course typically spans 2 to 3 days, depending on the dive center’s schedule and local conditions. It includes five open water dives, each focusing on a different specialty area.

No formal written exam is required for the SSI Advanced Adventurer course. However, you’ll complete brief knowledge reviews or quizzes for each selected specialty to ensure understanding.
If you complete the Deep Diving adventure dive, you’ll be certified to dive up to 30 meters (100 feet). For divers under 15 years old, the maximum depth is typically 21 meters (70 feet).
The SSI Advanced Adventurer is a sampler course, offering experience in five specialties. In contrast, the SSI Advanced Open Water Diver is a recognition level achieved by completing four full specialty courses and logging at least 24 dives.
Yes, the dives completed during the Advanced Adventurer course can count toward the corresponding full specialty certifications if you choose to pursue them later.
The SSI Advanced Adventurer certification is valid for life. However, if you haven’t dived in a while, it’s recommended to take a refresher course to update your skills.
