The Ultimate Guide to Scuba Diving in Diani
Everything you need to plan scuba diving in Diani Beach: the best time to go, what you will see, how to learn, what it costs and how to get here, written by an SSI Instructor Trainer who lives and teaches on this coast.
Why scuba diving in Diani is worth the trip
Diani Beach sits on Kenya’s south coast, a long stretch of white sand backed by palms and fronted by the warm Indian Ocean. Beneath the surface is a fringing coral reef with relaxed, beginner-friendly conditions, plus a wreck and plenty of marine life to keep experienced divers busy.
It is also one of the easiest places in East Africa to combine diving with everything else: beach days, safari, culture and good food. If you have ever wanted to try scuba diving or finally finish your certification, Diani is a friendly place to do it.

Best time for scuba diving in Diani
You can dive Diani all year, but conditions change with the monsoon seasons. October to March is generally the most settled, with warm water, calmer seas and the best chance of good visibility.
April to June brings the long rains, when weather and visibility are less predictable. July to September is cooler and breezier, and is when humpback whales are often seen along the coast. Visibility also shifts with tides and recent weather, so we always plan dives around the day’s conditions.
