Create something worth diving into

Scuba diving content creator programme in Kenya.

You’re already a diver. Now imagine developing your skills, learning the craft of guiding and building a portfolio with the Indian Ocean as your backdrop.

We’re looking for one capable visual storyteller to join Ocean Tribe in Diani Beach for a couple of months. Balance your SSI training with purposeful media work: your progression, our community, and the reefs and wrecks we dive. Explore local sites such as Milele Reef in Diani.

The schedule is arranged with the selected creator. Progression depends on training performance and agreed media milestones.

Your side of the exchange

We invest in your diving.

Our scuba diving content creator programme covers the following costs in return for agreed media deliverables.

Digital kits & initial pro fees

SSI digital learning materials, specialty manuals, mySSI access and initial professional registration/application fees for the specified pathway.

Local diving access

Local boat diving, tank fills and weights during the exchange. Fun dives are scheduled when you are outside assigned courses and media work.

Rental equipment access

Use of a mask, snorkel, BCD, regulator with octopus, SPG/depth gauge, fins and wetsuit. Optional personal gear purchases are available through our GoPro dive equipment packages.

Professional mentoring

Hands-on coaching, operational experience and guidance from Ocean Tribe’s SSI Instructor Trainers as you develop towards a professional diving role.

Client media commission

Create photo and video packages for consenting customers, upload them to Ocean Tribe’s client sales portal and earn 40% commission on sales generated.

Budget for your stay: accommodation, food, living expenses, flights, personal travel, medical examinations and buying your own equipment are excluded. We can recommend budget-friendly villas or apartments in Diani.

The journey

Authentic progression stories, student milestones, training insights and the experience of developing from Open Water Diver towards SSI Divemaster.

The destination

Reefs, wrecks, marine encounters and life in Diani. Film the ocean responsibly and let real experiences lead the story.

The Ocean Tribe vibe

Boat departures, gear preparation, surface intervals, mySSI learning, expert instruction and the people who make the dive centre.

Capture it. Edit it. Deliver it.

  • Produce vertical videos with engaging captions, suitable audio and clear Ocean Tribe calls to action.
  • Photograph consenting fun divers and course participants, then curate and upload their media to the client portal.
  • Supply high-resolution marketing photography and organised weekly raw footage drops.
  • Join regular reviews to align content, captions and upcoming shoots.

Safety leads every shoot.

Training, briefings and dive safety take priority over content. Plan filming around the assigned activity and your instructor’s direction. Respect marine life, never touch coral and obtain permission before photographing clients.

Who we’re looking for

Already a diver?
Bring your creative eye.

You don’t need a huge following. Show us your storytelling, camera work and editing skills.

The creator checklist

  • Open Water Diver or equivalent from a major training agency. No minimum logged dive count is required to apply; tell us your experience.
  • Your own underwater camera rig — for example a GoPro with dive housing, a TG-series camera or a housed mirrorless/DSLR system.
  • Basic editing skills in software such as CapCut, Premiere or DaVinci Resolve.
  • Around two months in Diani, with a flexible start window and commitment to the agreed training and media schedule.
  • Your own living and travel budget for the costs outside the exchange.

Before you apply

Scuba diving content creator programme FAQs.

Is this a fully funded stay in Kenya?

The specified training, SSI digital materials, initial professional fees, dive access and rental equipment access are covered in exchange for your media work. You pay for accommodation, food, living costs, travel, medical examinations and any personal equipment purchases.

Can I apply with just Open Water certification?

Yes. Open Water Diver or an equivalent certification is the minimum application level, with no minimum logged dive count to apply. Certification and advancement depend on meeting course performance requirements and the agreed training and media milestones.

Do I need my own camera and dive equipment?

You need your own suitable underwater camera rig and basic editing skills. Standard rental dive equipment is available during the exchange. Buying a personal dive equipment package is optional.

How much content will I need to produce?

The monthly quota is 16 short-form videos and 40 edited high-resolution photographs, plus weekly raw footage uploads. The brief allows approximately 10–12 hours of media work per week alongside training. The production schedule is agreed with Ocean Tribe.

Can I use the content in my own portfolio?

Yes, under the portfolio permission described below. You may share your own edited work on your personal channels and portfolio with Ocean Tribe credited/tagged. Third-party sales, licensing and commercial endorsements require prior written consent.

How does the 40% commission work?

You photograph or film consenting customers, curate their media and upload it to Ocean Tribe’s client sales portal. You earn 40% commission on the resulting client media sales. Commission depends on sales and is separate from the covered training package.

Is the programme exactly eight weeks?

The production brief uses an eight-week roadmap. The exchange runs over a couple of months, with the actual start window and schedule arranged with the selected creator and progression dependent on training and media milestones.

Exchange guidelines

A clear partnership from day one.

Accepted creators must agree to the exchange terms, including the following conditions from the programme brief.

01 · Scope of trade and costs

Ocean Tribe provides the specified SSI course tuition, digital kits, initial professional registration fees, dive access and rental equipment access at zero financial cost to the participant in exchange for the agreed media deliverables. Personal living costs, accommodation, food, travel, medical exams and personal gear ownership are excluded.

02 · Safety and environmental standards

Dive safety rules, instructor briefings and underwater safety protocols take absolute priority over filming. Ocean Tribe has zero tolerance for touching coral, harassing marine life or reckless diving behaviour. Violations result in immediate termination of the exchange.

03 · Commercial ownership and media rights

All raw footage, edited videos, Reels, TikToks, photographs and digital assets captured by the creator during the exchange, whether for shop marketing or client trips, are the property of Ocean Tribe. Ocean Tribe has full, perpetual, worldwide, exclusive commercial rights to edit, publish, monetise, distribute and use the media across social platforms, digital advertising, print and its website without restriction or additional compensation beyond the agreed trade, except for the agreed client-media commission.

Client media is uploaded exclusively to Ocean Tribe’s client sales portal for customer purchase and fulfilment under Ocean Tribe’s brand, with the agreed 40% commission paid to the creator.

04 · Creator portfolio use and third-party restrictions

Ocean Tribe grants the creator non-exclusive, royalty-free permission to use their own edited creations on personal social channels, websites and professional portfolio reels, with Ocean Tribe properly credited/tagged. Content may not endorse competing dive centres or commercial brands without prior written consent.

The creator may not sell, license or transfer raw footage or final assets captured during the exchange to stock media sites, competing brands or external commercial entities without explicit authorisation from Ocean Tribe management.

05 · Training and progression milestones

Certification and course advancement depend on meeting in-water performance requirements and fulfilling agreed media delivery quotas. Dive Guide / Divemaster training phases progress after successful completion of earlier training and media milestones.
