Scuba diving for couples in Diani. What if only one of you dives?
A shared holiday can make room for different interests. Explore the reef, try something new and leave time to enjoy Diani together.

Your pace.
One holiday.
Scuba diving for couples in Diani works best when the holiday reflects what both people enjoy—even if only one of you is a diver.
Perhaps you have a logbook full of dives while your partner has never tried scuba. Maybe you both want to learn, or one of you is happiest with a book beside the pool.
You can build a holiday around that mix. The key is to discuss what each of you wants before filling the itinerary.
At Ocean Tribe, we can help you explore suitable diving options and consider how they fit into your time in Diani. Tell us your experience, interests and dates so we can start with a plan that works for both of you.
That might mean a few guided dives, a beginner experience, learning together or combining the coast with a safari.
Three ways to plan your diving
Choose according to experience and interest. You can share the holiday without needing identical diving schedules.
Make room for your reef time.
If you already dive, start by choosing how much of the holiday you want to spend underwater. A couple of dive days can feel very different from booking diving throughout the trip.
Tell Ocean Tribe your certification, number of logged dives and when you last dived. The team can discuss suitable guided trips and whether a refresher would help before returning to the ocean.
Be clear about which dates you want to keep free together. Agreeing that early makes it easier to plan the diving around the rest of the holiday.

Your partner can try scuba first
Trying diving is a choice to explore together. Let the person taking part decide which starting point feels comfortable.
SSI Try Scuba
A pool-only introduction offers a controlled environment for discovering scuba equipment and underwater breathing. It can be a gentle first step for someone who wants to find out what the experience feels like.
SSI Basic Diver
Basic Diver combines introductory learning and pool practice with two supervised ocean dives. It offers an ocean experience without committing to a full certification course.
Participants should be comfortable in the water and able to float or tread water for ten minutes. Medical paperwork is required, with medical clearance where indicated.

Learn to dive together.
If neither of you is certified, scuba diving for couples in Diani can begin with the same course.
Ocean Tribe normally offers SSI Open Water Diver over three days with four ocean training dives. An optional fourth day adds two fun dives after certification. You can start the digital learning before arriving.
Each person still needs to meet the entry requirements and demonstrate the required knowledge and skills. Swimming assessments and medical paperwork are part of the course.
You may progress differently. Give each other encouragement and let the instructor guide the learning, rather than treating the course as a competition.
Explore the Open Water course →What if your partner prefers the beach?
That preference can be part of the plan from the beginning.
Talk about the time each of you would like for your own interests and the experiences you want to share. A relaxed beach or pool session may be exactly what your partner wants while you dive.
Then keep some time free together: a leisurely meal, a walk, an afternoon exploring or simply an unplanned day.
Ask about any non-diving activities before booking them. Availability, suitability and transport arrangements need to work with the rest of your plans.
The aim is a holiday both people look forward to, with an agreed balance of individual and shared time.

Add a safari to your Diani holiday.
For couples with different diving interests, a safari can become a shared highlight of the trip.
Ocean Tribe offers dive-and-safari packages that combine the coast with time inland. Discuss how much diving you want, how long you can travel and the accommodation style you enjoy.
We can help you explore suitable options and consider the itinerary as a whole. Share your flights and onward travel plans before confirming the order of activities.
Explore dive & safari packages →A few conversations before you book
The most useful starting point is knowing what a good holiday looks like to each of you.
Choose the experiences first, then discuss the dates and arrangements with the team. Keep enough flexibility for training progress and changing sea conditions.
Share any access or assistance needs early so they can be considered alongside activities, accommodation and transfers.
Once you have a plan, check the confirmed inclusions and prices. A non-diving partner’s activities, accommodation or boat place are not automatically included in a diving booking.
- Diving experience: who is certified, and when did they last dive?
- Interest: does the other partner want to try scuba, learn or stay on land?
- Time: how many days would you like for diving and shared activities?
- Comfort: discuss swimming ability, water confidence and any questions.
- Travel: share dates, flights, accommodation preferences and budget.
Couples’ diving holiday FAQs
Can we plan a Diani holiday if only one of us dives?
Yes. Tell Ocean Tribe which partner is certified, their recent experience and what the other person would enjoy. Plan diving alongside beach time, shared activities or a safari, with arrangements confirmed before booking.
Can my partner try scuba without taking a certification course?
Yes. Pool-only Try Scuba provides an introduction, while SSI Basic Diver combines introductory learning, pool practice and two supervised ocean dives. The team will explain the requirements and help choose a suitable starting point.
Can a certified diver and a beginner dive together?
Possibly, but it must be arranged with the dive team. Different experience levels can require different sites, supervision and schedules. Tell Ocean Tribe both divers’ qualifications and comfort levels before booking; sharing a boat or dive cannot be assumed.
Can we learn to dive together?
Yes. Both partners can enquire about the SSI Open Water Diver course. Each person must meet the entry requirements and demonstrate the required knowledge and skills. Ocean Tribe normally offers three days with four training dives, or an optional fourth day with two additional fun dives after certification.
What if my partner prefers to stay on land?
Build the coastal stay around both people’s interests. Your partner can choose beach or pool time while you dive, then you can reserve time for shared meals and activities. Ask the team about suitable non-diving options and availability.
Can we add a safari to our diving holiday?
Yes. Ocean Tribe offers combined dive and safari packages and can discuss a tailored itinerary. Share your dates, diving plans, accommodation preferences and budget so the team can help arrange the overall trip.
