SSI Instructor Training Course
Turn your passion for diving into a career at Ocean Tribe in Diani Beach.
Led by award-winning SSI Instructor Trainer Mark Slingo and supported by our Assistant Instructor Trainers, the programme follows the current SSI curriculum and prepares you for the SSI Instructor Evaluation.
Complete much of the theory through SSI Digital Learning before arriving in Kenya, then concentrate on practical teaching, presentation and in-water demonstration skills.
Your training
A structured pathway from professional dive leader to confident SSI instructor candidate.
Complete the required SSI theory before the live training sessions begin.
Develop your teaching techniques through classroom workshops and candidate presentations.
Practise confined-water skills, rescue demonstrations and open-water teaching.
The programme incorporates the SSI Assistant Instructor course.
Use our pool facilities and unlimited tank refills to build confidence before your evaluation.
Prepare for the separate two-day SSI Instructor Evaluation conducted by an SSI Instructor Certifier.
Train in paradise
Ocean Tribe is based on Diani Beach, where palm-lined white sand meets the warm waters and coral reefs of Kenya’s south coast.
Outside your scheduled training sessions, you can explore Diani’s dive sites, build your experience and enjoy one of Africa’s most celebrated beach destinations.
The SSI Instructor Training Course combines instructor-led training with digital learning completed in your own time through the MySSI app.
The SSI Instructor Training Course is open to SSI Divemasters or divers who hold an equivalent certification from another recognised training organisation.
You must meet the diver medical questionnaire requirements. Some medical conditions or medications may prevent you from diving. Please take the RSTC Diver Medical Participant Questionnaire to a doctor and submit the completed medical clearance to SSI.
