The SSI Classified Diving program has been created to enable persons with disabilities who might not be able to earn full certifications the ability to dive and get certified with different safety parameters. Learn to work with disabled divers.
The SSI Search and Recovery course is perfect for divers who want to gain the skills and knowledge to safely and efficiently recover lost objects underwater. Whether you’re an enthusiast or a professional, this course equips you with the practical tools and techniques to handle search and recovery operations in various dive conditions.
During the course, you’ll begin by learning the fundamentals of search techniques. These techniques include pattern search methods, and utilizing compass navigation to maximize your chances of finding lost items. With these foundational skills, you will be prepared for a wide range of recovery scenarios.
Additionally, the course covers recovery techniques for lifting and retrieving objects, from small tools to larger items, all while ensuring safety for both the diver and the environment. You’ll learn how to handle different lifting devices, such as lift bags, and understand their proper usage for efficient recovery. This is a critical skill set that can be applied in both recreational and professional diving contexts.
DURATION
The Search and Recovery course takes 2 days with some Digital Learning to be completed in advance. There are ocean dives plus a free fun dive.

MEDICAL INFORMATION
All dive course participants must meet medical questionnaire requirements to be able to dive on the course. Some conditions or medications may prevent you from diving. Visit the Can I Dive page to see if you meet the requirements before booking.
Ok, there is some SSI Digital Learning to complete as part of the knowledge development section of the SSI Search and Recovery Course. During this and workshops with your SSI Instructor, you will learn about the theory of sidemount diving, as well as the gear configurations and equipment options that are available to you. SSI ’s cutting-edge digital learning leads the world in diver education and enables you to complete the knowledge development in the comfort of your own home. You can take notes in the app to discuss with your SSI Instructor any concepts that you don’t understand. Assessment of learning is done via quick reviews at the end of every section in the online learning, which you must get correct to proceed so it’s sure you understand
POOL TRAINING
The SSI Search and Recovery course practical part includes both confined and open water diver training. You will perform the following skills and exercises in the water
Recovery techniques for lifting and retrieving objects, from small tools to larger items, all while ensuring safety for both the diver and the environment.
You’ll learn how to handle different lifting devices, such as lift bags, and understand their proper usage for efficient recovery.
OCEAN DIVES
We will go by boat out to local coral reefs and wrecks which are suitable for conducting the training dives.
You will make 2 search and recovery dives as part of the course following mastering the techniques in the pool.
The skills will include:
Search and Recovery dive planning
Search patterns
Rigging and lifting an object
Search and recovery scenarios
Once all performance requirements have been met by you with regards to elearning, and confined and open water dives you will be issued with an SSI Search and Recovery Diver certification, indicating that you are qualified to use sidemount gear and dive a sidemount configuration. (the last dive can be a free fun dive where you can put your new skills to use).
WHERE WILL I DIVE?
Your SSI Search and Recovery course will take place on the main coral reefs and wreck of Diani on the selected dive sites of the day.
