The Ocean Tribe Kids Scuba Diving Camp scheme will be launched this summer (July) to encourage under 18s to become scuba divers and the reef guardians of tomorrow. There will be beginners and advanced programs, which will include a dive course(s) and some fun dives to get dive experience.
Scuba diving provides kids with the opportunity to learn life long certifications with friends and family in a safe, team environment. Our scuba diving mantra is that we provide an inclusive sport that allows boys and girls with varying sporting abilities, interests and passions to apply them to the underwater world. Given a small amount of patience, we are constantly astounded by the enthusiasm and personal development by our students on a weekly basis for all course levels.
Ocean Tribe’s philosophy is to ensure that our younger divers really comprehend the importance of the underwater world to the well-being of the planet. Every course has been designed to challenge divers to know the most up-to-date trends in marine conservation and dive physiology and how these in turn can have an effect on protecting endangered species and reef-dependent communities.

There is not a requirement to complete the whole thing in the time given, the days can be split up if extra time is required but most prefer to do it alongside their contemporaries in an organised timeline.

The Divemaster internships and instructor internships at Ocean Tribe are a great way for you to progress to the professional diver levels. Packing both experience dives, PADI courses, working in a busy dive centre with different customer levels and dive conditions, they provide a great grounding for you to set out on a dive career.
The internships to PADI Divemaster and PADI Instructor levels are open to anyone over the age of 18. Groups who they might be of particular interest to include people on a GAP year, military resettlement and training, career breaks or career changes. Or even if you just want a great way to advance down the diving levels on an extended holiday.
The divemaster internships and even the instructor internships can be started from any diver level. Yes even if you are a total beginner we have a package to suit you!
We are excited to announce that with bookings for the August IDC in Kenya at Ocean Tribe, you will get a free wildlife safari following the IDC. We realise that if you are coming to Kenya and spending all this money to become a PADI Instructor, then you should also be able to see some of Kenya’s fantastic wildlife.
Starting the day after the PADI Instructor exam, the free wildlife safari is a 3 day / 2 night adventure. You will travel in 4×4 vehicles from Diani to Ngutuni Lodge and Game Sanctuary.
Ngutuni Lodge is surrounded on 3 sides by Tsavo East National park and set against the spectacular backdrop of the Sagala Hills.
The game sanctuary plays host to a vast array of the Tsavo African wildlife. As well as going out on game drives around the park, the lodge is situated right on its own waterhole, which can be viewed while enjoying drinks and meals on the viewing gallery, or even right from your bed in your lodge room.
Regular visitors to the waterhole include the famous Tsavo short maned lions, elephants, zebras, giraffes, waterbucks, warthogs, and over 500 species of birds. Rooms are equipped with a double and a single bed and all have en-suite bathrooms, giving you a great place to relax after your safari encounters.
All meals are on a full board basis and the buffet-style food is pretty delicious, with breakfast and 3 courses for lunch and 4 courses for dinner consisting of salad, soup, main dish & dessert made up of all locally sourced fresh ingredients.
For further recreation there is a bar and swimming pool on site in the lodge.
The free wildlife safari is an awesome way to reward yourself for all the hard work that you have put into the PADI IDC after a couple of weeks on the course. All going to plan, you will be celebrating your new gained status of PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor.
What an IDC package, which includes everything you need to successfully become a PADI Instructor.
This includes the IDC and EFR Instructor courses from Mark our Award-Winning PADI Course Director.
All PADI materials are included in the IDC package as well as the PADI Instructor Exam and application fess (unless you would like to leave these until later to pay yourself to PADI).
You will also get access to our online IDC classroom and resource centre which includes training aids, practice exams, example videos and presentations and more.
Not content with just that we have included directly in the IDC, the PADI O2 Provider specialty and your choice of 5 more following the IDC on the PADI Specialty Instructor training program (This would be held on return from safari).
If you’ve ever dreamed of exploring the ocean, scuba diving is the perfect way to do it. But before you can dive into the deep blue, you need to get certified. So, how do you become a certified scuba diver?
It all starts with choosing a recognized scuba training agency. Two of the most popular are Scuba Schools International (SSI) and PADI. Both offer globally accepted certifications, so you can dive anywhere in the world. Once you’ve picked your agency and a reputable dive center, the real adventure begins.
Your first step is the Open Water Diver course. This is the full entry-level certification that teaches you the core skills, safety procedures, and dive planning techniques. It includes online or classroom theory, confined water training, and four open water dives. Once you’ve passed the course, you’re certified to dive independently with a buddy to depths of up to 18 meters (60 feet).
But what if you’re short on time, or not quite ready to commit? No problem. You don’t have to complete the full course all at once. If you’re curious and want to test the waters first, you can try a Try Scuba Diving experience—also known as Basic Diver with SSI. It lets you experience scuba in shallow water under direct instructor supervision. No prior experience needed.
There’s also the Scuba Diver course sub-rating, which covers part of the Open Water course. It qualifies you to dive to 12 meters with a professional. Later, you can complete the remaining sections and upgrade to full Open Water certification. These flexible options make it easy to learn at your own pace.

When you start scuba diving, one of the first big questions is whether to rent or buy your gear. Both options have their pros and cons, and the right choice depends on your diving goals, travel plans, and budget.
If you’re just getting started, renting might seem like the obvious choice. It’s cheaper in the short term, and it gives you a chance to try different brands and styles before making a commitment. Dive centers usually offer well-maintained rental gear, so you don’t need to worry about quality. It’s also convenient—especially if you’re flying to a dive destination and want to avoid extra baggage fees.
But if you plan to dive regularly, buying your own gear starts to make more sense. When you own your equipment, you know exactly how it fits and how it works. That familiarity can make a big difference underwater. You set it up your way every time. There’s no adjusting to different mouthpieces, BC/BCD straps, or fin sizes on each dive.
There’s also the issue of hygiene. While reputable dive centers clean their gear thoroughly, some divers prefer the peace of mind that comes with using their own mask, regulator, or wetsuit. These are personal items, and owning them can enhance both comfort and confidence.
