Welcome to the Ocean Tribe Diver Learning Centre. We have tried to put together information and videos from across the diving world to help you understand and study dive theory. Check out each category in the Learning Centre to find explanations, videos, and more. We hope it helps you to prepare for your dive instructor training course and look forward to seeing you on the program. Along that journey to Instructor.
The SSI Classified Diving program has been created to enable persons with disabilities who might not be able to earn full certifications the ability to dive and get certified with different safety parameters. Learn to work with disabled divers.
For those of you who would just like to try scuba diving out, perhaps as a test before getting your certification, then the SSI Try Diving (Basic Diver) Experience is for you. After a short briefing and pool session when you are introduced to the basic diving skills, you embark on 2 ocean dives up to 12m deep under the direct supervision of an Ocean Tribe SSI Instructor. The dives from your SSI Try Diving (Basic Diver) Experience can also then be credited towards the SSI Scuba Diver or SSI Open Water Diver courses, meaning you have already got a head start on your certification.
DURATION
The experience can be as short as 1½ hours if you opt for the single lagoon dive or 5 hours if you want to visit the main reef and complete two dives under the supervision of an Instructor.
WHO IS IT FOR?
The SSI Try Scuba Diving experience is open to anyone from age 10 who has basic swimming skills and wants to give scuba diving a try.

AVAILABILITY

MEDICAL INFORMATION
All Try Scuba Diving experience participants must meet medical questionnaire requirements to be able to dive on the course. Some conditions or medications may prevent you from diving. Visit the Can I Dive page to see if you meet the requirements before booking.
Before you go in the water there is a short eLearning section for you to complete. This covers the knowledge briefing and gives you a quick introduction to scuba diving and safety concepts. This will be elaborated on by your Instructor during the try diving experience.
POOL INTRODUCTION
Before we take you into the ocean we want to teach you a few basic scuba skills. This will enable you to safely be able to use the scuba equipment. This is done in a pool environment. This means you can stand up if you have any problems. Also there are no other factors such as surge or currents to distract you.
Your Ocean Tribe diving Instructor will demonstrate the skills to you. They will then get you to do the skill until you are comfortable with it. Once you are comfortable using the scuba then it’s time to go on a real dive.
OCEAN DIVES
Once you have done the basic skills in the pool. Your PADI Instructor will take you on a short boat ride to a sheltered local reef. You will then go on one or two underwater tour dives. Here you can experience the magic of the underwater world whilst breathing from scuba.
If you enjoy the experience and wish to continue. The SSI Try Scuba can be used as credit towards the Scuba Diver and Open Water Diver certification.
WHERE WILL I DIVE?
Depending on which option you have selected. Your SSI Basic Diver will take place either on a single dive inside the Diani lagoon. Or for those who want to experience the main coral reefs of Diani. There is the 2 dive option which is done outside of the lagoon on the selected dive sites of the day.

Do I need to be able to swim to scuba dive?
A question that we are constantly asked at Ocean Tribe is “Do I need to be able to swim to scuba dive?”. This is a more complicated answer than a simple yes or no, as it really depends on the experience you are looking to have.
If you are after getting your Open Water Diver licence or any other scuba diving certification then the straight answer in yes. On the entry level Open Water Diver and Scuba Diver courses there are swim and floating tests that you need to be able to accomplish in order to earn the dive certification. On the Open Water courses this is a 200m swim and a 10 minute tread or float.
